 August 2023 marks 25 years since the release of Initial D. A Japanese drifting anime series that gained a cult following and popularized motorsport culture.

Takumi soon becomes an underground legend by executing flawless drifts to navigate the sharpest hairpin turns and perilous downhill courses in his father's Toyota AE86.

Initial D also features real cars and JDM gems such as the Mazda RX-7, the Honda S2000 and the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 (My personal favourite).  Additionally, the series includes intense racing scenes backed up by some upbeat Eurobeat music that will have you on the edge of your seat. As if you were the driver, you'll be able to hear every tyre squeal and feel the rush of acceleration.

Although Initial D is primarily about racing, it also heavily emphasises character growth and interpersonal connections. The story gains complexity and emotional impact due to Takumi's development as a racer and a person, his changing friendships, and the rivalries that form through time.

Initial D's storyline would later become the inspiration for the Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift film.
